Discover the ZEISS ScanPort: Streamlined 3D Scanning for Modern Manufacturing

  • Emily Brewer

At Concept, we’re always looking for ways to simplify precision measurement, and today we’re highlighting a game-changer in 3D scanning: the ZEISS ScanPort. We sat down with Alex Cockman, ZEISS Application Engineer for HandsOnMetrology, structured light scanners, and lasers, to get a closer look at this innovative technology.

What is the ZEISS ScanPort?

The ZEISS ScanPort is a three-axis, semi-automated 3D scanning machine designed for fast, accurate, and repeatable measurements. This automated 3D scanning system delivers precision while allowing flexibility for parts that require manual handling. With a motorized arm that can actuate 90 degrees and extend in and out, it accommodates parts of various sizes—making it ideal for precise and efficient automated 3D scanning in any production environment.

How it Works

The core of the ZEISS ScanPort is the ATOS Q fringe projection system. A central projector emits structured light onto the part, while two stereolithography-configured cameras capture the reflected light. This setup triangulates millions of points in seconds, creating an accurate 3D model of your part in record time.

Once the scan is complete, ZEISS INSPECT software streamlines the inspection process. From dimensional checks to GD&T analysis and color mapping, all captured data can be exported into easy-to-read PDF reports, ready to share with your team.

Automation Made Simple

One of the standout features is kiosk mode, which allows for one-button scanning. After preprogramming a part, you can start the process with a single click. The ZEISS ScanPort will handle scanning, inspection, and reporting automatically—making it perfect for production environments where efficiency and repeatability are key.

Industries Benefiting from the ZEISS ScanPort

The versatility of the ZEISS ScanPort makes it ideal for industries like:

  • Medical – Rapid and accurate scanning of medical devices and components

  • Aerospace – Complex geometries with strict tolerance requirements

  • Automotive – Streamlined inspection of high-volume parts

With the ZEISS ScanPort, manufacturers can achieve faster throughput, higher accuracy, and more reliable inspection results, helping businesses stay competitive in today’s fast-paced industrial landscape.
